THE MUSIC ROOM Resources shared by Paul L. Brown WHAT IS IN THIS COLLECTION? Note-Finder.html Move a note on a treble, bass, or grand staff. See its name, hear its concert pitch, and explore sharps and flats. Hide name offers a quick class challenge; Staff labels adds a teaching guide. The-Rhythm-Race-Game.html Listen to a rhythm and build it with notes and counts. Choose a two-player race or timed turns for 1-3 players. Answers are judged by the teacher, not automatically checked. Rhythm-Lab-The-Rhythm-Pyramid.html Explore whole, half, quarter, and eighth notes in 4/4. Build a four-beat measure, listen to it, and try a six-question practice check. HOW TO OPEN 1. If you downloaded the collection ZIP, extract it first. Windows: right-click the ZIP and choose Extract All. Mac: double-click the ZIP to extract the folder. 2. Open one of the .html files in the extracted folder. Double-click it. If it opens as code or text, right-click and choose Open with, then a current web browser such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari. On a Chromebook, use the Files app and open with Chrome. Keep the filename ending in .html. 3. Click or tap the controls inside the page. No installation or account is required. Open the actual file, not an email or file preview window. 4. Click a playback button to enable sound. Check your volume and speaker output before class. QUICK STARTS NOTE FINDER Choose a clef. Tap the staff, drag the note, or use Up and Down. Select Play note to hear it. Turn on Sharps & flats for accidentals. Use Hide name to ask students for the answer before revealing it. Sound is concert pitch (A4 = 440 Hz), not instrument-transposed pitch. RHYTHM RACE Choose your game mode and open Settings to choose notes and counts. Count in, then clap or play a rhythm. Players build notes and counts. In the two-player race, select Done to lock in. The teacher checks the work, then directs the winner to tap their score. In timed turns, choose 1-3 players and unique initials. Start timer, build the rhythm, then Stop & lock. The teacher or performer checks the work and selects PASS or FAIL. Use the same challenge and rhythm for fair comparisons. Use How to play inside the game for the full instructions. RHYTHM LAB Choose a pyramid row in Explore, then Listen to this row. Open Build a measure and fill four beats with notes. Open Check yourself for the six-question practice quiz. The lesson assumes 4/4 time and a quarter note equal to one beat. INTERNET AND OFFLINE USE Download the files while online. Core activities and generated audio work locally. Rhythm Lab uses an online font, so lettering may change offline; its external reference links need internet. The other two resources contain their own visual assets. CLASSROOM BOARDS, TABLETS, AND PHONES A laptop or desktop is the simplest option for downloaded HTML. On a classroom board, open the file in the browser on its connected computer. For simultaneous two-player input, run Rhythm Race's Board test on that exact setup. Multitouch depends on the board, connection, and browser. Timed turns is an alternative. Opening downloaded HTML on a tablet or phone varies by device and file app. A preview may not run the activities. Use a browser preview or a laptop/desktop if local files do not open interactively. RESULTS AND SAVING Note Finder settings reset when you refresh. Rhythm Lab practice results reset when you reload. Rhythm Race scores, times, and play logs reset when you refresh. Rhythm Race settings and custom rhythms may save in the same browser when local storage is available. They do not sync across devices. Record any results you need before closing or refreshing. TROUBLESHOOTING No sound: click a playback button; check device volume, tab mute, and the selected audio output. Open the file in a full browser. File opens as code: use Open with and select a browser. Check that the file ends in .html rather than .txt. School restriction: ask your IT team if local HTML or downloads are blocked. Do not bypass device or browser security warnings. The original three HTML files are included without modification.
